WLToys is one of the most prominent RC helicopter manufacturer today. The V911 that came out of its production line has earned much respect from RC heli hobbyists the world over. Of late plenty of  companies have been designing and producing more advanced 4-channel helicopters hoping to earn the success that WLToys has been enjoying. Currently, WLToys is into the design, development and production of flybarless helis. It has come up with the Power Star series helis, with  the V930 Power Star X2 as one of its latest offering.

V930 Design Details and Features

The V930 stands at 77mm, weighs 46.5g and a span of 270mm. It is a flybarless FP helicopter that is aerodynamically designed for better parallel stability. It runs on a high speed brushless outrunner motor and fitted with a 3.7V 450mAh 25 C battery. The frame and body of the heli is solidly built, with propellers that are pliable, strong and low resistance. However, the hollow main shaft bends easily in certain circumstances and the tail motor is prone to damage. The canopy is easily deformed.

It features an automatic machinery (AVCS) that replaces the standard balance bar to adjust and stabilize the heli against resisting winds.  The use of a full servo steering remote control makes for a steadier flight.  Included in the package are a 2.4GHZ 4-channel radio,  V930 Power Star X2, spare main and tail blades and an instruction manual.

Flight Performance

Flying the V930 with the stock transmitter proved to be a challenge. It was quite hard to fly the heli with precision. The transmitter needs to be more refined.  Some enthusiasts used either a V977 or V988 transmitter to “fly” the V930.

This heli flies stable outdoors and indoors. Flying the V930 outdoors is easy enough even with a slight wind, thanks to the EMS Gyro (6g. Flying it indoors is not quite as simple as the heli  is quite zippy. Beginners might end up hitting people and things indoors as it takes some skills and experience to fly the V930 indoors. Due to its weight, the V930’s flight altitude was harder to maintain. What is quite mystifying is that when one throttles up, the head-speed increases, then decreases then increases again. However this characteristic does not seem to affect the flight.

The V930 Power Star X2 is a very stable aircraft with the accelerometer on.  It is possible to do takeoffs with just the throttle. With minimal management, the heli will hover in a stable manner. The extra power of the X2  makes a lot of difference when flying outdoors. The tail is quite stable even when the throttle is tweaked and played around. For the more skilled flyer, backflips are done with ease and in less altitude.

Pros and Cons

The X2 is quite stable to fly with its 6-Gyroscpe. . It has a consistent head speed and there is no need to replace the motor in a regular basis. It flies perfectly out of the box. It is possible to replace broken parts using replacement parts from other models. The only disadvantage of the V930 Power Star X2 Flybarless 4CH RC Helicopter is its mismatched transmitter.

Conclusion

The V930 is not for a newbie RC heli enthusiast. The heli is not actually hard to fly but its extra power and weight might be too much for someone who lacks the experience to fly an FBL FP. For someone with adequate experience in flying an FBL RC helicopter, then the V930 Power Star X2 is highly recommended as long as the pilot uses a V977 or V988 transmitter.
